Old City Project

Old City, Philadelphia and I grew up together.  As my photography career  was starting in the late 80s this neighborhood was beginning a growth spurt as well.  Since it’s one of the oldest neighborhoods in Philadelphia  its also seen all of the highs and lows of the America’s growth.  Most people know it as the home of Ben Franklin and many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence but when I moved there it was  recovering from a period of urban decline.  In the 2o years I lived there it went from a quiet kitchen supply district to a cultural and arts district; from having two Greek Diners to having a slew of upscale cafes and restaurants.   I tried to document some of the business owners that had been there for 60 years and some of the new arrivals who would transform the area.
