Feature assignment for Aftenposten.
On the outskirts of Tianjin, one of China’s largest cities, provincial and national leaders decided to build the equivalent of Manhattan’s Wall Street. The Big Apple comparison is quite intentional and comes with a promised but yet to be built Rockefeller Center. The struggling real estate sector has meant that most of this planned financial center has remained unoccupied. The flowers and shrubbery are still being tended but when the lunch time rush comes there are no traders or bankers , just a few guys in hard hats looking for a soup truck.
